MLO Description
MLO Polycomb body Synonym Polycomb condensate Location Nucleus
Description PRC1 is concentrated into nuclear condensates called Polycomb bodies. These bodies, as originally defined, are large and might serve to store PcG proteins in nonfunctional reservoirs or may represent functional hubs of maintained repression. The Polycomb-repressive complex 1 (PRC1) family complexes are central to maintaining this repression. The CBX-PRC1 complexes compartmentalize key developmental regulators for repression through phase-separated condensates driven by the chromobox 2 (CBX2) protein. These complexes have been shown previously to reside in membraneless organelles called Polycomb bodies, leading to speculation that canonical PRC1 might be found in a separate phase from the rest of the nucleus.
